Put A Cap-On It

Making a great cocktail requires the proper tools.  A shaker, a jigger, a muddler – and, of course, a bottle of your favorite libation.  Have you ever noticed that bottles in bars have those pourers stuck in the tops?  Those little doo-hickeys help the liquid come out quickly and more precisely.  Those little pourers come with little caps – which are easily lost cuz they’re as tiny as pencil eraser.  So, sometimes bartenders will have to track down some cellophane or tin foil.  Extremely inconvenient.  And, for home bars, well, it just looks sloppy.

That’s why Cap-On is a great little invention.  You know how the simplest ideas are often the most logical, and leave you slapping your head thinking: “Duh! Why didn’t anyone do this sooner?!”  Cap-On is a speed pourer but rather than having a long spout poking out the top of the bottle, the tube extends inside the bottle neck, with a short spout sticking out… short enough to be able to screw the cap of the bottle back on it without removing the pouring device.  So easy, so brilliant.

Cap-Ons make it easy for the home bartenders to pour like a pro, and they are already being adopted by professional bars as well.  In San Francisco, Duggan McDonnell has implemented Cap-On use at his bar Cantina and Dave Nepove (aka: Mr. Mojito) loves to use them on his rum bottles.  The best part is that they are so inexpensive, you can put them on every bottle in your possession… only 69 cents per dozen and you can buy them here at barproducts.com.

There is also a tool called the V-Rod which works as both a bottle cap opener and a Cap-On remover so that you can easily get them off one bottle when its empty and onto a new, full one.  (Bang for your buck!)  And, the V-Rod can even be personalized with your bar logo, a photo or whatever so you can bring a little more personality to your drink slinging.

So, the next time you are mixing drinks for a pal or a whole party, pop open a bottle of your favorite elixit – to don’t forget to keep the Cap-On!
