BAR FOOD: Please Your (Hungry) Inner Child

Remember the excitement you felt as a kid, when your team won the big game, or you discovered that special prize at the bottom of your Cracker Jacks? Thanks to Bar Food, you can have that childhood happy feeling again, while enjoying the perks of being adult: great beer, wine, and really great bar food!

This West LA gastropub offers a cozy, relaxed environment and welcoming vibe. It’s classy-yet-unpretentious décor of wooden beams and large glass windows overlooking Wilshire Blvd, draws a friendly crowd of neighborhood locals and young professionals. The owner (and genius behind the food menu) Jason, turns everyone into a regular with his sparkling Irish personality and vast knowledge of beer. When asked how he decided on the 24 draft beers, 10 wines by the glass, and a menu featuring sophisticated comfort food, his answer is an assuring response of wanting to choose things that “people really like” and the resulting selection proves that this “grown-up” pub is sure to hit a home run with any crowd.

Open Tuesday-Sunday nights, their Happy Hour runs daily from 5-7pm, highlighting a winning option for every palate.  Beer lovers can choose from the Bar Blonde, Bar Amber, and Bar Pale for $3.50 and winos get their pick of House Red or House White (a crispy Pinot Blanco or a velvety Argentinean Cabernet) for $5. What goes best with a pint of beer or a smooth glass of wine? You guessed it—bar food! Their selection does the name on the store front proud, with unique treats like Potato Puffs, light and crispy dollops of fried mashed potatoes ($2), Edamame sautéed in a spicy black bean sauce ($4) or a bar version of the popular Asian dish, Spicy Tuna served on fried rice patties ($6). Really want to feel like a kid again? Order a Hot Dog during happy hour and it’s free!

The full menu is sure to put the comfort in your food as well. A favorite of regulars, the Thai Bangers & Mash ($9.50) made with Sour Pork Issan Sausage and Cilantro Mashed Potatoes. And an unexpectedly wonderful pairing—the Black Butte Porter, a beer with hints of cocoa and coffee ($6) enjoyed amongst forkfuls of the fluffy Bread Pudding and its Butter Scotch Sauce ($7).

No need to find a box of Cracker Jacks to fill like a winner today—invoke your inner child and stop into Bar Food. It will be the prized moment of your day!
